Introducing the Extraordinary Charles “C.P.” Caldwell.
In the rhythmic tapestry of Charles “C.P.” Caldwell's life, music is the driving force that not only sustains him but elevates his existence, providing a voice to shared experiences that resonate universally.
C.P.'s trajectory as one of the most sought-after child models was abruptly altered at the tender age of 6, when he confronted a life-altering event—suffering 3rd degree burns over 85 percent of his body. Undeterred, his innate desire for self-expression surged, and from the ashes of adversity, his fervor for music emerged victoriously.
“Music found me through the eclectic sounds my mother played during my formative years. I'd mimic and sing along,” reminisced C.P., the moniker standing for Chocolate Pleasure. “My connection to music was intricately woven into the fabric of my childhood, and I'm profoundly grateful for it.”
Harlem-born, Bronx-bred, C.P. honed his craft at the Harbor School of Performing Arts on a singing scholarship, where he not only discovered his penchant for poetic expression but also cultivated a formidable vocal prowess. A choir member and a participant in a 10-city tour in Italy, C.P. found his true sanctuary on the stage.
“Being on stage is where I feel most at home. It's an indescribable rush that I never tire of,” declared C.P.
Facing the challenges of racism and prejudice in Eastchester, NY, during his teenage years, C.P. channeled his emotions into his writing and music, transforming adversity into art. Graduating high school, he embarked on a new chapter at St. John's University in Queens.
“My music became my healing balm, addressing the wounds of life with raw honesty and emotion,” shared C.P.
Fortune smiled upon him when he crossed paths with Dwayne “Deacon” Jackson during his first year at St. John's. Their friendship blossomed into a musical partnership, performing at college and local showcases throughout the tri-state area. In 2002, the duo evolved into One Of A Kind, infusing R&B and hip-hop with an emotional resonance that captivates audiences. The addition of lyrical maestro Leon “Big Lee” Harris in 2006 completed the ensemble, solidifying One Of A Kind as a contemporary group delivering an unparalleled musical experience.
“Music is not just my passion; it runs deep within my soul. It's not a job—it's a way of life,” affirmed C.P., reflecting the essence of an artist whose journey is as remarkable as the music he creates.
